Follow-On Blog to C5 / Kalayaan Elevated U-Turn

Miguel3082 was kind enough to be begin the blog about the C5/Kalayaan Elevated U-Turn slot. Last Friday, it took me a full hour just to cross that intersection from the flyover leading to Market-Market (pointing towards Kalayaan, about 1/2 km away from the intersection.

That C5 thing is one stupid project if you ask me, and apparently, the same sentiment is shared by many engineers out there who consider the construction a deviation from international standards.  A shame that the money could have been used for more worthwhile projects.

Businessworld has an interesting article about this.  I'm going to get myself a copy of the issue soon.  In the meantime, I enclose a preview below (taken from http://www.bworldonline.com/BW052908/content.php?id=143).

Bayani’s Kalayaan fiasco

Bayani Fernando, chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, is the engineer-wannabe who designed the expensive Kalayaan elevated U-turn that is now being built.

Engineers I interviewed have termed it "Jurassic," "irreversible," and "defying international standards of traffic and safety."

The core problem lies in Bayani’s perception that he is infallible; criticisms against him are simply ignored. His bullheadedness is the issue. The Kalayaan project reflects not only a first-class engineering blunder, but also bad governance. The senior transportation engineers I interviewed have been building interchanges for decades."

Did you know that this project was scrapped already? THe initial plan was to build an overpass. And then it was shot down, and they suggested the elevated U TUrn. It was shot down TWICE!

And now we see the construction. You have to wonder, who paid money to get this going and who recieved it?

It is really stupid to build something that is actually useless and redundant...

Bayani Fernando! Strike 2 ka na!! First your stupid pictures all over the road, and now this??
